Carol Laxton

Carol J Laxton passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by family, Tuesday, April 10th, 2018 at the age of 79. Carol was born July 10th 1938, Sparta Wisconsin, to the late Nwell and Leona Goff (Stanke).

     Carol graduated from Sparta High School in 1956, and soon after married the love of her life Gerald (Jerry) Laxton, on February 24th, 1957. The two of them settled down and established themselves within the Sparta community, raising two children, Robert Laxton and Thomas Laxton. Carol worked and retired from Human Social Services. She reminisced frequently on how challenging, yet rewarding, her job was.

     Carol and her husband Jerry shared many wonderful close friends. Much of their time and memories were created at The Farm. From fish frys, birthday parties, deer season, holidays, and pure enjoyment, they were regularly surrounded by those who loved them. Carol was known for her cooking skills which impressively served regular crowds at The Farm. She and Jerry took many fond trips some places which included South Dakota, Washington, Mt. Rushmore, and Canada. Together they enjoyed hunting, fishing, and reminiscing with old friends.

     Carol was not only a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and aunt, she was a truly cherished grandmother. She is best known for her impromptu haircuts, delicious morning breakfasts, beautiful summer flowers, stunning needle point, and irreplaceable love.

     Carol is survived  by her husband of 61 years, Gerald Laxton; her sons, Robert  Laxton of Sparta,WI and Thomas (Amy) Laxton of Rhinelander, WI; grandchildren, Marie (Joshua) Johnson (Laxton), Melissa (Steven) Horner (Laxton), Alex Brinker, Zachary Laxton, Jenna Laxton; great-grandchildren, Dominic Johnson, Riley Johnson, Karter Johnson, and Brigham Horner; her sisters, Sandy (Dean) Wagner of Sparta, WI, Dawn (Gene) Kruk of Sparta, WI; her brother, James (Buzz) Goff; many great nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones.

     Carol was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Bill Goff; and sister-in-law, Karen Goff.

     Burial and memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 27, 2018 in Woodlawn Cemetery. Online condolences may be offered at www.schanhoferfh.com
