Catherine "Kitty" J. Knoll

Catherine “Kitty” J. Knoll, 87, of Sparta, died Friday, October 13, 2017 at Hillview Health Care Center, La Crosse. She was born on January 15, 1930 to Ross and Catherine Bullen. She grew up in the Wilton-Kendall area.

     Catherine married Ernest Frye. Together they farmed and raised 6 children. Ernest passed away April 18, 1961. Catherine married Harold Knoll on January 5, 1962. Together they had 2 children. Harold passed away September 29, 1987.

     Kitty lived in Viroqua, Coles Valley, Sand Creek, Farmers Valley, and Sparta. She worked at Northern Engraving, retiring in 1995. She enjoyed embroidery and sewing.

     Kitty is survived by her children, Clarence Frye of Winona, MN, Nancy (Michael) Bemke of Sparta, and Bruce Knoll of Cashton; 18 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Eileen Frye of Cashton; son-in-law, Jeff (Nicki) Taylor of Virginia; and many other relatives and friends.

     She was preceded in death by her parents Ross and Catherine Bullen; her husbands, Ernest and Harold; her children, William Frye Jr., Joyce Saul, Jane VanKirk, Judd Frye, and Cecile Taylor; and her daughter-in-law, Valerie Knoll.

     A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, with Reverend Randy Williamson officiating. Burial will be at a later time in Woodlawn Cemetery, Sparta.

     Family and friends are invited to call from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until time of services on Thursday at the funeral home. 

     The Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
