Cecilia M. Jacobson

Cecilia Marie Jacobson, 95, of Sparta passed away April 21, 2018, at the Morrow Memorial Home in Sparta, WI, surrounded by her loving family.

Cecilia was born on January 20, 1923, to Herman and Agnes (Sichler) Hart of Alma Center, Wisconsin. Cecilia’s mother taught her to play piano, a passion that stayed with her throughout her life. She attended a rural one-room school and often recalled taking a horsedrawn buggy from the family farm to school each day. She later attended Santa Ana Junior College in California, and the University of Wisconsin, Madison. On September 28, 1949, she married Vernon Jacobson, and together they raised five children. During her early married life, Cecilia was organist and vocalist for two Catholic parishes in Eau Claire County. In later years she worked to improve the housing and daily nutritional needs of families in Monroe County. Her own family fondly remembers holiday gatherings at her home in Sparta. She was an outstanding gardener and cook, and her apple pies and carrot cake were highlights of any family gathering. Cecilia’s quiet, compassionate nature touched everyone who came to know her.

She is survived by her five children, Paul Jacobson (Mary Kay), Mary Neff (Rick), John Jacobson (Gary Brockman), David Jacobson (Danelle), Therese Harmes (Kirk). Her 11 surviving grandchildren are Paul Jr. (Pam), Kevin (Becky), Christopher (Lucy), Carey (Greg), Nathan, Shannon, Collin (Rachel), Melissa, Michael, Emily and Abby. Her eleven great-grandchildren are Luke, Ally, Maddy, Gavin, Ty, Austin, Elijiah, Ethin, Ebigail, Calvin and Cecilia. Cecilia was preceded in death by her husband, seven brothers and sisters, grandchildren Ryan and Melinda, and great-grandchildren Nathan and Leo.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Morrow Memorial Home for the care and love shown to Cecilia, with a special thank-you to Jessica Wallace-Bialecki, who was there for all of us from day one.

Visitation will be May 1, 2018, from 10 AM until noon at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 319 W. Main Street, Sparta, Wisconsin, 54656, followed by funeral mass at noon. Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Online condolences may be offered to the Jacobson family at www.schanhoferfh.com
