Douglas J Kast

     Douglas J. Kast was born in Viroqua, WI to Joseph and Eudora (Schaefer) Kast. He grew up in Bangor. He left school early so he could help his father on the farm, something he enjoyed.

     Doug worked at Northern Engraving in West Salem for over 20 years. He also worked at The Key To Comfort in West Salem and most recently was working as a custodian at UW-La Crosse. 

     Doug married Dawn Hale on May 18, 2001. They lived in West Salem. Doug enjoyed meticulously caring for his lawn, Tractor Pulls, Singing Karaoke (Kerr-okie, he called it) His Chevy Monte Carlo, racing, and his cats. He also took great joy in telling jokes and pulling pranks on anyone who would fall for it. He was light hearted, charming, and mischievous. He was known for his “catch phrases”, he loved to tell stories and dance like nobody was watching (even though everybody was).

     Doug passed away Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Gundersen Health System, La Crosse, at the age of 56 years and 27 days. He was preceded in death by his mother, Eudora Kast.

     Doug is survived by his wife, Dawn of West Salem; his children, Adam Kast of Green Bay, WI and D.J. (Jenna) Kast of Green Bay; his granddaughter, Wren; his father, Joe Kast of West Salem; his brothers and sisters, Gary Kast of La Crosse, Tonya “Sis” Marsh of Bangor, Roger (Dawn) Kast of Holmen, Paul (Sue) Kast of Mindoro, Karen (Mike Abbott) Kast of Sparta, Steve Kast of Tomah, and Doris (Tony) Johnson of Mindoro; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends, all of whom adored him, and will miss his humor and his laugh.

     A memorial service was held at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, with Reverend Randy Williamson officiating. Burial was will in Rockland Cemetery, Rockland. A Celebration of Life followed at JTs Longshots in West Salem. Online condolences were offered at www.schanhoferfh.com
