Elizabeth C Luther

Elizabeth Cora Luther, 89, of Cataract, died Thursday, September 28, 2017 at her home.  She was born on September 9, 1928 to Christ and Cora (Tooley) Mengelt.

     Elizabeth married George A. Luther in 1945.  They were happily married for 67 years.

     Elizabeth was a member of the Cataract Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for 25 years.  She was a member of the Jenkins Valley Homemakers and United Methodist Womens Club.  She was a lunch server at Cataract School and worked at the voting polls for the Township of Little Falls.

     She is survived by her children, Judy (Don) Herr, Hedy Waite (Roger Jandt), Joan Sanders, Georgia Thomas, George (Brenda) Luther Jr., Randy Luther, Christine (Richard) Stargard, and Brenda Luther; her brother, Curtis Mengelt; sisters, Donna (Dennis) Zillmer, and Sandy Molster; 17 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; 19 great great grandchildren.

     Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, Christ and Cora Mengelt; her loving husband, George A. Luther Sr. in 2012; her in-laws, Raymond and Thelma Luther; an infant son, Joseph; a great granddaughter, KayCee Sanders; a great grandson, Rileigh; great granddaughter, Deanna; brothers, Earl and Gordon Mengelt; a sister Shirlimae Mengelt; son-in-laws, Earl Thomas, and Franny Sanders; daughter-in-law, Patty Luther; brother-in-laws, Robert and John Luther, Howard Becker; sister-in-law, Orvilla Becker.

     A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 2, 2017 at the Cataract United Methodist Church with Reverend Roberta Nowicki officiating.  Burial will be in the Cataract Cemetery.

     Family and friends are invited to call from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, and from 10 a.m. until time of services on Monday at the church.  

     The Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
