We will always remember and miss Oma and Opa.......Suzanne your parents are the reason we bought our home there in Sparta. Once I met them and knew they would be our neighbors it really didn't matter what the house was like. (although as you know the house was immaculate and perfect for us....) I learned so much from them...how to garden, how to can pickles, how to make sandbakkels, rosettes.....but never mastered the lefse. There was never a time that we were with them that we did not hear about their wonderful daughter Suzanne and her amazing husband John Smith....never just John...always John Smith:) Then later it was their wonderful smart grandson.....
When we first looked at the home....I only had Heather and Jesse with me. Jesse dropped his chewing gum on the car seat.....and before your dad could show us the home he had to get it off the seat for us (even though I told him I would get it later just leave it) :) As he was getting it off his fuzzy brown hat with the little feather on the side fell onto the seat and Jesse picked it up and put it on (he was about 3)......your dad smiled, laughed and let him wear it......your mom had treats for the kids and Timmy was such a friend right from the beginning....once he got done hiding in the hallway:) We will forever miss and love them......and although we never got to spend much time with you I feel like we have because of the loving updates they always poured out to us about you. So many wonderful memories.......they will never be forgotten.....

Kathy and I were not able to attend Harlan's funeral as we both in bed with 101 degrees temperatures and thought it wasn't a good idea to go out under the circumstances. May God help Suzanne and Tim coupe with this loss and hopefully with time it will heal. Will keep both of you in our prayers. Norm and Kathy Martin

Suzanne,
I received the Sparta paper this morning and read of the passing of your Dad on Christmas Day. AsI write this you are gathered for his service at the Portland Lutheran Church. I am thinking of you and send my sincere sympathy to you and your family. While I did not know your Dad, I know of the friendship my Dad had with him. I did get to meet your Dad at Della's service. Suzanne and family - I was very sorry to hear of the passing of your father. My dad also passed away on Christmas morning in 1998. Although it's a very difficult time, your dad would want you to remember the good times and happy memories you shared over the years. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Sorry about his passing. We became acquainted with Harlan several years ago when he regularly attended St. John's Episcopal church with a friend.
We often saw him and visited at events in the area. He was a regular at the Cashton VFW smelt fries. He was always very cheerful and happy to visit.
May God grant him eternal rest and may Perpetual Light shine on him.
