Harlan E. Lueck

Harlan Earl Lueck, 93, of Sparta passed away in Sparta on Monday, December 25, 2017. Harlan was born May 13, 1924 to Henry and Gertrude (Martin) Lueck in Newry, WI. He grew up in the Cashton area, attended Portland and Thompson grade schools, Cashton High School, and graduated from Sparta High School with the class of 1943.

Harlan served in the US Army during WWII. He married Harriet Poss, July 13, 1951 in Waukon, IA. Together, they resided on Harriet’s family farm in Cannon Valley until 1957.  They then moved to West Salem where they resided for 14 years. In 1971, they moved south of Sparta (Sand Creek).

Harlan worked for 40 years at Trane Co. in La Crosse. Over the years, he designed and built his own homes in La Crosse, West Salem, and Sparta. He enjoyed music, especially polka music and hymns. Harlan was a member of Portland Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 100. He had many friends and will be missed by all that knew him.

Harlan is survived by his two children, Suzanne (John) Smith of Grand Prairie, TX and Timothy H. Lueck of La Crosse; and a grandson, Evan Smith of Grand Prairie, TX. He is further survived by his nephews, Spencer (Nancy) Lueck; David (Kathryn) Lueck; Dale (Carolyn) Lueck and Robert (Hilda) Lueck; and a niece, Mary (Doug) Trosper, and their families.

In addition to his wife, Harriet, and parents Henry and Gertrude, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Norbert (Louise) Lueck and Arnold (Elaine) Lueck; and two nephews, Stanley and James Lueck.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 30, at Portland Lutheran Church, 7526 WI-33, Cashton, WI 54619, with Rev. Gary Daines officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
