Harley Walter Jenkins, 91, of Sparta, died Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Rolling Hills Rehabilitation Center, Sparta. He was born May 8, 1926 in Sparta, WI to Walter and Alice (Wagner) Jenkins.
Harley married Dolores Ottum, April 17, 1948. Dolores preceded him in death on April 26, 2009. He served his country in the US Army and was a WWII Veteran. Harley delivered milk door to door for Beaver Creek Dairy. He also worked for S&S Distributing and in his later years as a custodian for the Sparta Area School District. Harley loved hunting, fishing, and watching the Packers and Brewers.
Harley is survived by his children: Suzanne (Jack) Forman, of Woodstock, GA; Dale (Susan) Jenkins, of De Forest, WI; Kathy (Darrell) Meyer of Plano, IL; Alan (Janice) Jenkins; Wayne (Suzette) Jenkins; Creg (Theresa Jacobs) Jenkins; and Kevin (Lisa) Jenkins, all of Sparta. He is further survived by his siblings: Shirley (Ken) Snow; Carole (Lawrence) Ruedy; Betty (Loren) Kirkeeng; and Harold (Maryke) Jenkins; a son-in-law, Michael Brieske; sisters-in-law Barbara (Gordon) James, Mildred Jenkins and Rosella Jenkins; brothers-in-law John (Linda) Ottum and Robert (Carol) Ottum; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores; parents, Walter and Alice; daughter, Cheryl Brieske; siblings: Bernice (Francis) Baumbach; Alberta (Norm) Rommel; Cleo Jenkins; Francis Jenkins; and Dot (Gordon) Hutson; and a granddaughter- in- law, Robin Jenkins.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 11, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sparta, with Rev. Mark Kvale officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Sparta.
Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, from 1-4 p.m. at the Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta and at the church on Monday, from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Online condolences may be offered to Harley’s family at www.schanhoferfh.com.
