John "Buzz" C. Zimmerman

     John “Buzz” C. Zimmerman, age 91 of Sparta, passed away at his home on Sunday, March 18, 2018. He was born on March 31, 1926, in Beaver Dam, WI, to Walter and Esther (Mussehl) Zimmerman.

     Buzz served in the US Air Force from 1943 until 1945 during WWII. He graduated from the Milwaukee School of Engineering in 1949.

     Buzz married Nelda Petzka on December 1, 1951 in Pekin, IL. They had two children. He was employed with Trane for 30 years and retired as lab supervisor.

     Buzz was very active throughout his life with softball, bowling, golf, camping, morning coffee clutch, Lions Club, and as an avid Packer and Brewer fan. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. Buzz was a friend to many people throughout his life, and he will be greatly missed.

    Buzz is survived by his children, Debra “Ruby” Kroeger of Sparta and Chris Zimmerman of Florida; his grandchildren, Brandee (Ken) Ortery and Elizabeth; and his great-granddaughter, Halla. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nelda Zimmerman; his brother and sisters, Joyce Wimer, Leon Zimmerman and Edith Gossink; and his grandson, Ryan Alexander. 

     A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2018 in Oak Grove Cemetery, Tomah, with Reverend Mark Kvale officiating. Military honors provided by VFW Post 2112 of Sparta will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2025 E River Pkwy, Minneapolis, MN 55414. 

     The Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, is assisting the family with arrangements.
