Linda L. Higbee, 65, of New Orleans, LA and formerly of Sparta, died Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Tomah VA Medical Center. She was born on August 7, 1952 in Sparta to Gordon and Ruby (Hodgkins) Peck. She grew up in Sparta and graduated from Sparta High School.
Linda worked at Rolling Hills as a nurse’s assistant. She then served in the US Army from 1974 until 1979. She was stationed in Germany where she met and married Timothy Higbee, they later divorced. After the service, she worked at Fort McCoy for over 30 years in the Motor Pool and as a chaplain's assistant. She finally worked a year at the Tomah VA. She moved to New Orleans and recently moved back to Sparta due to illness.
Linda enjoyed traveling. She loved being outdoors and enjoying life. She saw the beauty in everything and everyone.
Linda is survived by her children, Tori Higbee and Dane Higbee both of Sparta; her granddaughter, Kennedy; her sister, Phyllis Peck-Kennedy; and nieces, a nephew, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Ruby and her brother, Terry Peck.
A visitation for Linda will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, April 20, 2018 at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta. Military honors provided by VFW Post 2112 of Sparta will immediately follow the visitation. Private burial will take place at a later time.
