May God's grace comfort you at this time of departure. She was family, teacher and inspiration. I still remember being in the classroom when the call came that the Cuban Blockade was over. What faith and courage she showed. This world was brighter for her presence and now heaven glows a little brighter.

My thoughts and prayers have been with all of you, and especially today as you celebrate the life of a very special woman, teacher, and friend of our family. Marian was my elementary school teacher at Leon and I have many fond memories of those years. She was a devoted teacher with a deep love of children and a devotion of nurturing the lives and potential of children. She was a teacher by profession, and a teacher by life. I will always treasure the delightful visit my sister Eileen and I had with Marian in her home a couple of years ago.

My sympathy to your family in the passing of a grand lady. I would love to attend the funeral but we are in California until spring. I was born in the farmhouse next to your home farm. Since Marion was present at my birth to support my Mother, it would have been nice if I could have attended the celebration of her last journey.

My sincere condolences to Marion's Family. Great Aunt Marion started calling me around the time my mother died. (Susan Engaas). She always knew the exact questions to ask and provided the most healing advice. She made sure we visited and that my children knew where they came from. She and her sister Myrtle held my hand while I said my good-byes to my Grandma Maude Mashak. They taught me SO MUCH! I loved watching those sisters talk with their eyes. What were they saying to each other??

My family and I enjoyed our yearly visits. She would have us drive her all over town and knock on stranger's doors. (Everyone was family.... We just didn't know how we were related;) A stop for ice cream and onion rings was always guaranteed.

She is forever in our hearts!

My sympathy to the family. Marian was a very special cousin of my mother, Vera. We always had such a good time when we got together. I know what a wonderful and dedicated teacher she was in Leon.

Marian was a wonderful person who will be missed. She had such a rich and fulfilling life, intelligent and sharp all the way. It was always a pleasure to visit with Marian for a few hours at a time, when she was always welcoming and gracious and always full of details and news about her family she treasured so much. She really was a link to another era that has almost disappeared, with wonderful stories about her parents, her grandparents she knew who had come from Ireland and Holland in the 19th century, and about my great-grandmother, her sister Muriel.

Aunt and Godmother to me.....she gave me support and care through the years. Times when I am far away and those miles are wiped away when Aunt Marian tells me that we can talk by phone and feel a link out of loneliness. Thank you for so many times of drawing everyone into your family ties and keeping us uplifted from past to present.

My deepest sympathy to Marian's family. As you know, she was my Dad's (Walter Kelly) first cousin, and my mother's (Leonilda) dear friend. She was also my 5th and 6th grade teacher, and the one who took the call, then returned to the classroom, and through teary eyes told us President Kennedy had been killed. She read us Uncle Tom's Cabin. She snapped her fingers and told us to "use our noodles" to prompt us to think. When I was sick and missed long-division, she assigned Joan Selbrede to teach it to me in the back of the room, privately, so I could get caught up--and I did get caught up.
She was also the one who caught us trying to smoke in the ditch at the far end of the playground and, yardstick in hand, marched us squarely back into the classroom!
And we all remember the day she showed up in her beautiful, new, burgundy Mustang. Coolest car ever driven by a teacher!
Marian didn't just teach with rigor, she lived it. She was passionate about her kids; was especially close to her sister, Lucille; had a stand for civil rights and for justice; was genuinely interested in people, and was a life-long learner and contributor. My siblings and I feel this loss. She was a remarkable woman, a dear friend to our parents, and a force in our young lives. I know they join me in expressing our deepest sympathy to you, and our gratitude for Marian being part of our lives.

I had not remembered that Aunt Marian drove a Mustang,(up to date that she always was)! Loving students that she had remarked their thanks to her, and if you had some blood relationship even better!

I was SO surprised to read of Marion's passing. For some reason, she was on my mind when I did appointments for this year ! What a SPECIAL lady she was !! I was honored to have her as a client for MANY years...from her driving herself to the office and then when her faithful son, Dave, would bring her !! What a DELIGHTFUL SOUL !!
Think of the hundreds of students she influenced !!
I will be ONE of MANY who will miss her!! GOD'S SPEED, Marion. PEACE to your family!!

Mrs. Schwartz was my teacher for 5th and 6th grade at Leon Elementary. She was also the Principal of the school during my younger years. I loved her very much. She was kind, intelligent and cared for us like our own mother. Her sister, Mrs Brueggemann taught across the hall from her. We respected them, tried to play tricks on them, but they always were one step ahead. I kept in touch with Mrs Schwartz many years and so did my mother. Marion was happy that she taught in the same school that Deke Slayton attended. In 2001 I had the honor of helping care for her husband at the Morrow Home. May God bless and comfort the family of this special woman and teacher. May her memory be blessed!

My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Aunt Marion was a wonderful lady who reminded me so much of my own Mom. When I think of your Mom and Dad I always think of Uncle Norb taking my face in his hands one time and saying to me "You look so much like your mother". I always think of your Mom with having the same tenderness that my Mom had. She was a beautiful lady. I'm sure they are having a fine party up in heaven!
