Mary T. Quinn

     Mary T. (Hammes) Quinn, 85, of Sparta, died Tuesday, February 20, 2018. She was the youngest of 16 children, born in St. Joseph’s Ridge on August 16, 1932 to August and Caroline (Schumacher) Hammes. She married David Quinn on June 15, 1951 and together they raised 5 children on their family farm.     Mary’s greatest joys were her children, grandchildren, and her role in her Parish. Those who knew her remember her unwavering love, kindness, strength, and her deep love for God. She loved to cook, volunteer, and spend time with her loved ones. She always saw the positive, she loved life, and lived each day being thankful to God for all of her blessings.

     Mary is survived by her 5 children, Michael Quinn of Sparta, Patricia (Chris) Larson of Afton, MN, Mara Palme of Minnetonka, MN, Elizabeth (John) Mashak of Sparta, and Edward Quinn of Sparta; her grandchildren, Natasha (Jason) Scanlon of Denver, CO, Sean Quinn of Marshfield, WI, Megan (Jake) Hampel of Sparta, and Emma Mashak of Sparta; and her great-grandson, Nyxson Hampel of Sparta; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

     She was preceded in death by her husband, David Quinn; her parents, August and Caroline Hammes; 10 brothers and 5 sisters: Sylvester, Bernard, August Jr., Bishop George Hammes, Leo, Alphonse, Albert, Herbert, Norbert, Arthur, Margaret, Loretta, Barbara, Caroline, and Rita.

     A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sparta, with Archbishop Jerome Listecki and Father Keith Kitzhaber officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

     Family and friends are invited to call from 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society. Online condolences may be offered at www.schanhoferfh.com
