     Richard “Dick” Beyer went to his Eternal Home on Sunday, October 15, 2017 from an apparent heart attack. Dick was born in Racine, WI on February 6, 1936 (on the kitchen table) to Edmund and Leona Beyer. He was the baby of the family of 5 siblings, Janice Braughton, Delores Hayes, Dorothy Wilhelmi, Noraine Bahrs, and Edmund (Ed) Beyer Jr. He graduated from St. Catherine’s High School, Racine, WI in 1954. Upon graduation, he served in the US Army from 1954 to 1956. He served in Germany as a cook and a pharmacist. He married Dorothy Herdt on August 18, 1956. They had 5 children, Cindy Statz Beyer, Madison, WI, Richard (Sharon) Beyer, Madison, WI Michelle Stinson, Melrose, WI, David Beyer, La Crosse, and Deryck (Stacey) Beyer of Madison, WI. He lived in West Bend for a few years before moving to La Crosse.

     Dick owned his own hardware store in Racine for a few years. He worked for many years in Industrial Equipment Sales, selling forklifts for Clark Equipment. He also was a district sales person for Robinson Shoes. In his early years, he supported his children’s activities volunteering many hours to the West Bend Patriots and the La Crosse Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps. Later in life, he was able to use his love for cooking, and supporting our troops, by preparing meals at Fort McCoy for soldiers deploying overseas.

     Dick married Jeanne Tichenor (Green) on March 17, 2001 and lived in Sparta. He became very active in the Sparta American Legion as a volunteer, Past Commander, and was the manager of the American Legion for several years. He was a gifted woodworker, producing many cabinets, tables, baby cradles, a 10’ windmill, etc for his home, family, friends, and the American Legion.

     Dick was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne and his children, and step children, Ryan (Angie) and Matthew Tichenor; his grandchildren, Alex and Collin Stinson, Grace and Emily Beyer, Serena and Lucy Beyer, and Ivan Tichenor; and many nieces and nephews.

     He will be greatly missed.

     A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta. Burial with full military honors provided by VFW Post 2112 and American Legion Post 100 will be in St. John’s Ev Lutheran Cemetery, Sparta.

     Family and friends are invited to call from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home. 

     The Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
