Roger E Matson Sr.

Roger E. Matson Sr., 75, of Sparta, died Friday, February 24, 2017. He was born August 24, 1941 to Lyle and Marie (Hansen) Matson, in Sparta. Roger grew up in the Sparta area and graduated from Sparta High School in 1959. Following high school Roger enlisted in the US Navy. He married Elaine Smith on November 12, 1960 in Sparta.  Roger was a Mason for over 47 years becoming a Master Mason. 

Roger is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Elaine; his three children, Dawn (Donald) Bindrim, TN; Joanne Matson, Sparta; and Roger (Brenda) Matson Jr., Sparta; his grandsons, Connor and Jordan Matson, both of Sparta; siblings: Marilyn (Norman) Myhre, TN; Butch (Alice) Matson, Beaver Dam; Marlene (George) Martin, Sparta; Sue (Butch) Oswald, Cameron; and Lois (Bruce) Losby, La Crosse. He is further survived by his brother in law, Louis (Vickie) Caprino; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Lyle and Marie Matson. 

A Masonic Service will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28, at the Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, immediately following, will be a Memorial Service with Rev. Randy Williamson officiating.   

Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, at the funeral home. Online condolences may be offered the Matson family at www.schanhoferfh.com.
