Ryan S. Mutschler

Ryan Scott Mutschler, 50, died from ALS, Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at his home in Sparta, under the care of his family and Gundersen Hospice. He was born May 19, 1966 to Richard and Lorraine Mutschler in La Crosse, WI.

Ryan married Jodi Abbott on November 1, 1996. They enjoyed 20 years together and were blessed with 3 beautiful children.

Ryan graduated from Sparta High School in 1984. He was on a harvest crew out west at the age of 18, which led him into farming for a while. He then went into construction. He started with Schendel Bros. in 1992 and later worked for Mathy Construction for 17 years as a loader operator and eventually a grader operator. In 2003, Ryan started working at Gerke Excavating in Tomah, WI as a grader operator.  He worked for Gerke Excavating until September, 2013, a year after his diagnosis of ALS.

Ryan grew up in Coles Valley and then lived in Sparta, WI with his family.  He enjoyed snowmobiling, 4 wheeling, hunting, boating, racing and the Packers.  He also loved spending time with family and friends.

Ryan is survived by his wife, Jodi Mutschler of Sparta; his children, Derek, Macie, and Ethan all of Sparta; he is also survived by his mother and father-in-law, Milo and Sheila Abbott; sister-in-law, Gretchen Abbott; and nephew, Braeden Abbott; Jodi’s grandparents, Russell and Tootie Bernett; and family from Iowa.

Ryan was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Lorraine Mutschler; his half-brother, William Brodhead; and many aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sparta, with Reverend Mark Kvale officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, and on Tuesday, at the Church from 10 a.m. until time of services.  Online condolences may be offered to the Mutschler family at www.schanhoferfh.com
