Zona E. Green

Zona Evangeline Green, 101, of Leon, passed away, Wednesday July 26, 2017 at her home surrounded by family. She was born November 23, 1915 in Circle, MT to Thomas and Bertha (Richardson) Green.

Zona married Gerald Green on June 11, 1937 in Wheeler, MT. He preceded her in death on April 5, 1995. She grew up on a family farm in Montana. In 1939 Zona and Gerald moved to Wisconsin and continued farming. She had a hand in the dairy operations part of the farm. In 2000, Zona was awarded Farm Woman of the Year by the Sparta Area Chamber of Commerce. She took care of 5,000 laying hens and ran an egg distribution business.

Zona was a member of the First Congregational Church of Leon. She was also a member of the Pleasant Valley School Association and the Pleasant Valley Homemakers. Zona was an avid gardener and was gardening and mowing lawn well into her 90’s. Zona and Gerald loved to go dancing on Saturday nights. She was a caregiver to her son, Duane and later in life her husband, Gerald.

Zona is survived by her daughter, Beverly Dodd and her children, Rheba (Mark) Roberts and Anthony (Theresa) Dodd, all of Georgia; her two sons, Neal Green, Sparta; and Thomas (Sharon) Green, Sparta, and their children, Mark (Dawn) Green, Tomah; Stacey L. Green, Onalaska; and Scott (Melissa) Green, Tucson, AZ. She is further survived by her great-grandchildren, Lauren Haymore, Logan Henry, Thomas Dodd, Robert Dodd, William Dodd, Ellie Dodd, Dustin Green, Denver Green, Nathan Green, Aidan Green, and a sister-in-law, Ginny Green.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; parents, Thomas and Bertha; her son, Duane Green; mother and father-in-law, Chester and Hazel Green; brothers, Elga (Hilda) Green; Harold (Berdina) Green; and Hugh Green; a son-in-law, David Dodd; and many brothers and sisters-in-law.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 31, at the Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, with Rev. Don Ehler officiating. Burial will follow in Leon Cemetery, Leon.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home on Sunday from 5-8 p.m. and on Monday, from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Online condolences may be offered to the Green family at www.schanhoferfh.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First Congregational Church of Leon Building Fund.
