Lynn M. Merow

Lynn Marcus Merow, 96, of Cataract, died Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Pineview Terrace, in Black River Falls. He was born January 5, 1928 to Wayne and Hulda (Johnson) Merow and was raised in the Cataract area. He went to Daneville school and then graduated from Sparta High School. He completed one year of ag short course at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

He was united in marriage to Alice Powell on June 10, 1948. Together they raised 8 children, and he farmed the Lone Bluff Farm in the Town of Little Falls in Monroe County all his life.

Lynn was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sparta, Wisconsin.

Lynn was active in many organizations throughout his life including the following: Town of Little Falls Treasurer and Chairman; Member of the Monroe County Board; President of Golden Sands  Resource Conservation & Development; Director of Monroe County Farm Progress Committee; Director of Equity Coulee Livestock Cooperative Association; President of Equity Cooperative Livestock Sales Association; Director of the National Livestock Producers Association; Director of Wisconsin Beef Council; Director of Black River Falls Federation Cooperative; and President of the Cooperative Insurance Agency.

Lynn is survived by 7 children, Mark (Darlene) Merow, Sparta, WI; Karl (Cindy) Merow, Sparta, WI; Marilyn (Dave) Woodworth, Kendall, WI; Peggy Weber, Madison, WI; Christine (Patrick) Baierl, Green Bay, WI; Pamela (Scott) Vieth, Sparta, WI; and Janet (Dean) Loeffler, Holmen, WI. A brother Wayne (Sharon) Merow. 21 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren; and son-in-law Bing Zillmer.

He was preceded in death by his wife Alice, parents Wayne and Hulda Merow; daughter, Linda Zillmer; granddaughter, Tammy (Merow) Hanson; grandson, Andrew Vieth; brother, William Merow; sisters, Rita (Merow) Brown and Ruth (Merow) Peer.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024 at St. John’s Ev Lutheran Church, Sparta, with Reverend Steve Olson officiating. Burial will follow the luncheon in Cataract Cemetery.
