Agnes M. Burnham

     Agnes M. (Ruetten) Burnham, 93, of Sparta, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at the Morrow Memorial Home, Sparta. She was born February 6, 1926 to George and Mary (Muehllenberg) Ruetten in Rice Lake, WI. She attended St. Patrick’s School and graduated from Sparta High School.

      Agnes married Charles Burnham on April 12, 1947, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sparta.  Charles preceded her in death on March 9, 2000. Agnes worked at Ft. McCoy during WWII as a dental assistant. She also worked at St. Mary’s Hospital and then the Morrow Home as a CNA. Agnes was very devout in her faith and was an active faithful member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

      Agnes is survived by her sons, William (Elizabeth) Burnham; John (Suzanne) Burnham; and James (Janice) Burnham; three daughters, Marie Smith; Ann (Frederick) Lukasek; and Joan (Jeffrey) Edwards; daughter-in-law, Barbara Burnham, a brother, Anthony (Helen) Ruetten; sister-in-laws, Ella Ruetten and Maria Ruetten. She is further survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

      In addition to her husband, Charles and parents, George and Mary, she was preceded in death by a son, Alan Burnham; siblings, Sr. Faith Ruetten, FSPA, Sophia Cote, Veronica Weibel, Charles Ruetten, Rita Baumgartner, Stephen Ruetten, and George Ruetten; and a son-in-law, Donald Smith.

      A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 12, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sparta, with Father Juan Pedro officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

      Family and friends are invited to visit from 4 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, with a Rosary Service to conclude the evening. Visitation will continue at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the hour of Mass. 

      In lieu of flowers memorials can be directed to St. Patrick’s Catholic School or the church.

      The family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff of the Morrow Home for the outstanding care provided to Agnes.
