Carmen R. Card

Carmen R. Card, passed away October 17, 2018 at BridgePath Assisted Living, in Sparta, WI. Carmen was born January 15, 1923, the daughter of Floyd and Florence (Lewis) Greeno.

As a child she lived in the Sparta area, and graduated from Sparta High School. During WWII, she worked as a Junior Plant Pathologist for the U.S. Government in Washington State. Carmen married Patrick J. Corliss in 1944 in Walla Walla, Washington. Together they had four children, John, Norman, Nancy and Patricia. Patrick passed way in 1948. Carmen married Keith O. Card at Blue Earth, Minnesota in 1950. They were blessed with two children, Lesly and Kelly. He preceded her in death in 1984.

Carmen most recently lived independently in her home in La Crosse. Carmen moved to Morrow Homestead Apartments in 2017. Over the years, Carmen had lived in many Midwestern states following Keith in his career. Carmen was the PTA President, Boy Scout leader, American Legion president and volunteer, an avid bowler and loved fishing. She also enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and visiting with friends and relatives.

Carmen is survived by her children, Jack (Cheryl) Card, of Holmen, WI; Norman (Jan) Card, of Eau Claire, WI; Nancy (Doug) Schaefer, of Berthoud, CO; Pat Lacey, of Sioux Falls, SD; Lesly Phillips, of Sparta, WI; and Kelly (Tonya) Card, of Neosho, MO. She is further survived by 15 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 11 great great grandchildren.

In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Irwin, Lewis, Gerald, and Norman; son in laws, Jeff Lacey and Dave Phillips, and a great grandson Atein Engel.

Carmen touched the lives of many throughout her life and will truly be missed. We love you mom, rest in peace.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 20, at the Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, with Reverend Clyde Ewers officiating. Burial will follow in Cataract Cemetery, Cataract.

Family and friends are invited to call from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, and on Saturday, from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. Online condolences may be offered to Carmen’s family at www.schanhoferfh.com.
