Carol M. Slawson

Carol Mae Slawson, 81, of Sparta, passed away, Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Health System, La Crosse. She was born in West Bend, WI on December 30, 1935 to the late Leonard and Edith M. (Knapp) Willgrubs. 

Carol and her family moved to the Sparta area in the early 1950’s. She graduated from Sparta High School with the class of 1954. Carol married LeRoy Slawson in 1954. She worked as a CNA at Rolling Hills Rehabilitation Center for over 27 years until her retirement. Carol was very proud to be the union president for several of those years. Carol and Roy enjoyed taking camping trips to Brunet Island on the Chippewa River. She loved the Green Bay Packers and was always one to tell jokes. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. 

Carol is survived by her husband of over 63 years, LeRoy Slawson; her 3 children, Debbie Warthan; James (Chris) Slawson; and Lori Slawson; her grandchildren: Shawna; Tim; Danielle (Jeff); Bobbi (Clint); Dustin; Mathew; and Brandon; and many great grandchildren. She is further survived by a sister, Betty Baeten; sisters in law, Doris Willgrubs and Mildred Slawson; and her special friend, Jane Larson; and several nieces, nephews, and close friends. 

In addition to her parents Leonard and Edith, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Marian Hays, Kenneth Willgrubs and Gene Willgrubs. 

A Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 23, at the Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, with Rev. Brian Young officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later time in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Sparta.
