Clifford “Cliff” T. Gosney, 81, of Sparta, died Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Tomah, with his loving wife by his side.
Cliff proudly served in our United States Navy from 1954 to 1957. He worked for the U.S. Army as Director of Information Management Technology for 28 years at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, Fort Hauchua, Arizona, Worms, Germany, and five years for La Crosse County until his retirement in 2004.
Cliff was a man of many interests. He was an avid fan of Westerns and the Cowboy way of life, Champion of multiple State Championships in Fast Draw. Cliff was Co-founder of the Western Wisconsin Wild Bunch Cowboy Action Shooting Club, at Holmen Rod and Gun Club of Holmen, Wisconsin. He was also a drummer with the La Crosse Pipe and Drums for several years. Cliff was a loving father and “Grandpa Cliff” to his grandchildren and devoted husband to his wife, Shirleyann. He loved to travel and visited many countries, as well as 40 of the 50 states.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Ann Gosney of Sparta; step children, Paul and Kristina Sagehorn, their children Tara, Hank and Wyatt of Sparta; Mark and Kersten Drake, their children Erik and Haylee of Sparta; his son, Justin and wife, Jennifer and their children Colton and Griffin of St. Louis, Missouri; and daughter, Joyce and her daughter, Coral.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Claude Gosney.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at New Life Assembly of God Church, Sparta, with Reverend Randy Williamson officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by Sparta VFW Post 2112 will be in Mt Hope Cemetery, Sparta.
Family and friends are invited to call from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, and from 9 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the church.
