After a 4 1/2 year battle with cancer, Dalton Mark Mattke passed away at his home on January 30, 2018 in Sparta, WI at the age of 20. Dalton was born on March 31, 1997 to Heather Kay Mattke. Heather passed away from complications of Cystic Fibrosis in August 1998. Dalton was adopted by his grandparents shortly after his mother passed away. He was preceded in death by his mother Heather and by his Aunt Holly and Uncle George Wheelock.
Dalton is survived by his adoptive parents Mark and Barb Mattke of Sparta, WI, and two cousins, Faith Ann Wheelock of Newport News, VA and Matthew Wheelock of Branson, MO.
Dalton attended school at St. Pats Catholic School through the 8th grade and graduated from Sparta Sr. High in 2015. In the fall of 2015, he began college at Western Technical College but because of complications with his illness had to resign after only one semester.
The family would especially like to thank his constant companion school friends who remained by his side providing continuous emotional support. Also special thanks to the Mayo Clinic and Hospital systems and their outstanding staff members for the attentive treatment and continuous support. Thanks also to the Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home in Sparta for making the arrangements.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sparta, with Father Keith Kitzhaber officiating. Dalton will be interred in the family plot in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Sparta. A reception/luncheon will follow the graveside ceremony in the St. Patrick Catholic Church basement.
Family and friends are invited to call from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta. There will be a 7 p.m. rosary. Visitation will continue on Saturday at the church from 9 a.m. until time of services.
