Dennis W. June

     Dennis Warren June, age 75, of Sparta, WI passed away Sunday, July 1, 2018 at home surrounded by his family after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. Dennis was born November 1, 1942 in Milwaukee, WI to Stanley and Erna (Armitter) June. He grew up with one brother on a family farm in Sparta and graduated from Sparta High School in 1960. He attended UW-La Crosse while working as an office manager at Sparta Hospital. Later he took business courses in Chicago which began his 28 year career in banking, retiring as the President of Valley Bank in 1994.

     Dennis married his high school sweetheart, Sally, on July 6, 1963. Together they raised three children: Rob, Holly, and Cindy. The family enjoyed traveling in their RV throughout the US and Canada. Dennis was an avid model train collector and NASCAR enthusiast.

     Community involvement was important to Dennis. He served as president of the Kiwanis Club and the Sparta Industrial Foundation; he was on the Board of Directors of the Sparta Economic Development and the Sparta Main Street Association to revitalize the downtown district. He was instrumental in building a new hospital and clinic in Sparta while serving on the St. Mary’s Hospital Board of Directors. Dennis’ dearest passion though was reserved for his family. He was actively involved in the lives of his three children and ten grandchildren and attended many of their activities. He was so very proud of each of them. Dennis was also happily awaiting the birth of his first great-grandchild due in December. Grandpa “Choo-Choo” was dearly loved for his infectious smile, playful personality, quick wit, and gentle disposition.

     Dennis is preceded in death by his mother and father and an infant brother, Terry. He is survived by his loving wife, Sally (Mossholder) June of Sparta, WI; his son Rob (Ann) June and their children Caleb and Anah of Mauston, WI; his daughter Holly (Peter) Guenther and their children Carly (Aaron) Hahn, Ryan, Brandon, Max, and Evan of Owatonna, MN; and his daughter Cindy (John) Degner and their children Bethany, Anaka, and Brady of Owatonna, MN. Dennis is also survived by his brother Donald (Diana) June of Sparta, WI and many nieces and nephews. The family especially wish to thank Dr. Woodward and his staff at the Mayo Clinic in Sparta for the excellent care Dennis received.

     A visitation followed by a prayer service will be held Sunday, July 8 from 2-5PM at the Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home in Sparta, WI. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, July 9 at 11AM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with a visitation at 10AM, Fr. Keith Kitzhaber presiding. Memorial donations may be made out to the Hope Lodge in Rochester, MN.
