Erika B. Oswald, 78, of Sparta, died Thursday, April 26, 2018 at Gundersen Health System, La Crosse. She was born at Olympic Stadium Hospital in Doberitz, Berlin, Germany. She grew up in Berlin and attended schools there.
Erika married Robert W. Oswald on August 29, 1963 in Bad Kissingen, Germany. After his service in the military, they moved to Sparta. Erika worked as a CNA at Rolling Hills Rehabilitation Center in Sparta and St. Mary’s Hospital in Sparta. She retired in 1979. She then owned a picture framing store in Tomah until 1994. She enjoyed traveling, reading, cooking, collecting coins, and cuckoo clocks.
Erika is survived by her husband, Robert of Sparta; her son, Toby (Joanna) Oswald of Sparta; her sister, Margitta Kuehn of Berlin, Germany; and two grandchildren, Tanner and Macey.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, with Reverend William Clyma officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Sparta.
Family and friends are invited to call from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Sparta Area Cancer Support (SACS) or the American Heart Association.
