Evelyn N. Hanson

Evelyn Norma (Kolbo) Hanson, age 102 of Sparta, WI., passed away Monday, November 25, 2019,  at the Morrow Home, Sparta. She was born, April 16, 1917, at home, in rural Melvina WI. to Adolph and Dora (Johnson) Kolbo.  Evelyn was number 11 of 14 children. She grew up in Cannon Valley (Portland WI) and attended Cannon Valley School through 8th grade.  Evelyn married Chester Hanson on November 27, 1935, and to this union they had three sons, Donald, Phillip and Duane.  They later divorced.

Evelyn enjoyed going to the Church of Christ and share her love of Jesus. She worked at Northern Engraving of La Crosse and as a Nanny for several families over the years. Evelyn traveled by ship to England to attend son Donald Hanson’s wedding to Lilian Averil (Daubney).

Evelyn is survived by a sister, Annette Garner of La Crosse, (who passed away 11 hours after Evelyn); her son, Philip (Rita) Hanson, of West Bend, WI; grandchildren: Susan, Robert, Steven, Linda, Jeff, Todd, Rebecca and Kenneth; great-grandchildren: Brad, Heather, Trevor, Tina, Kyle, Sheryl, Katrina, Crystal Michelle, Michael, Lauren, Brooke, and Rachel; great-great- grandchildren,  Dylan, Devon, Christen, and Brianna. There may be some great-great-great  grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Adolph and Dora; her sons, Donald and Duane; her sisters, Inga, Selma Olson, Sarah Olson, Myrtle and Whitwell; her brothers, Alphin, Lindahl, Archie, Elmer, Palmer, Leonard, Joseph, and Orlin; and a  grandson, Steven Hanson.

Evelyn entered the Morrow Home in 2013 and appreciated all that nephew, DeWitt Olson and his wife Judy did for her over the years, visiting, assisting and hosting annual birthday parties for her.  As well as the great loving care she got at the Morrow Home.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 2, at the Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, 106 W. Franklin St., with Dana Crohn, of the Church of Christ in Tomah, officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Portland Lutheran Cemetery, Portland, WI.
