Floyd “Manny” J. Betts, 86, of Sparta, died Monday, October 23, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Health System, La Crosse. He was born October 7, 1931 to Floyd E. and Christine (Nauman) Betts in Sparta, WI
Floyd served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in the Washington D.C. area. He worked for the City of Sparta, the Milwaukee Railroad, and the Soo Line Railroad for over 30 years. Floyd married Nancy Austin. She preceded him in death in 2013. He enjoyed deer hunting and watching the Green Bay Packers.
Floyd is survived by his son, William Betts of Leon; grandsons, James Betts and Brian (Kristin) Betts, all of Leon; great granddaughter, Elsa; and brother, Bob Betts of Cataract.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; parents, Floyd and Christine; daughter-in-law, Cindy Betts; great-granddaughter, Ivy Rae; brothers, Merlin Betts and Mike Betts; and a sister, Theresa Edmison.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 27, at First Congregational Church of Leon, with Donald Ehler officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by VFW Post 2112 will follow in Leon Cemetery, Leon.
Family and friends are invited to gather from 5p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, and from 10 a.m. until time of services on Friday at the church.
