Fred A. Beckler

     Fredrick “Fred” A. Beckler, 72, of Sparta, died Sunday, November 4, 2018 at Gundersen Health System, La Crosse.  He was born in Sparta on September 13, 1946 to Frank and Nena (Standiford) Beckler.

     Fred graduated from Sparta High School in 1965.  He worked on the family farm. He also worked for Randall Tire, owned his own shop, worked for Syverson Mobil, Fred’s Brake and Alignment, did cement work and then construction until he retired. 

     Fred married Ruth M. Brueggeman on September 19, 1998 in Sparta. He enjoyed racing in his younger years and then watching his son race.  He also enjoyed working on old Ford Tractors and mentoring the neighborhood children.

     Fred is survived by his wife, Ruth of Sparta; children, Amy (Dave) Bahr of La Crosse and Scott (Patty Rickman) Beckler of Sparta; grandchildren Cory (Briana) Bowser of Sparta, Onalea  (Ben Geiwitz) Beckler of La Crosse, Adrianna Beckler of La Crosse, and Emily Bahr of La Crosse; great grandchildren, Bennett Bowser, Carter Geiwitz and Baby Boy Beckler, due in March; siblings, Ann Borreson of Sparta, Henry (Mary) Beckler of Arizona, Judy Smith of Arkansas, Frank (Shirley) Beckler of New York; Brueggeman family and many other relatives and friends. 

     Fred was preceded in death by his parents, daughter-in –law, Heather; sister, Kathy Johnson; brothers – in –law, Dale Borreson, Mitchell Smith, and Ray Johnson; and infant sister, Janet.

     A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 9, 2018 at United Methodist Church in Sparta with Reverend Loretta Waughtal officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Sparta.

     Family and friends are invited to call from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, and from 10 a.m. until the time of services on Friday at the church. 

     The Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
