Gilbert Vieth Obituary

Gilbert O. Vieth, 74, of Sparta, WI passed away peacefully Saturday July 21, 2018 at Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Mary’s Campus, Rochester, MN. He had aneurysm surgery in March and was never able to fully recover. It was a hard fought battle until the end. There was so much he wanted to do yet.

Gil was born May 20, 1944 to Wesley and Doris (Schaller) Vieth. He graduated from Sparta High in 1962 and went on to get an Associate’s degree in accounting from WWTC. He married Mary Cheney in May 1964 and they were together until her passing in 2014. They had three children together. Gil worked for several years for Hawkins, Ash & Baptie and then started his own successful accounting business in 1968 which he later sold to his three children when he retired.

He enjoyed many years of fishing, hunting, golfing and hanging out with his friends. He was the life of the party and always full of laughs (and jokes he couldn’t remember the punch line to). He was a die-hard Packer and Brewer fan and loved to hang out watching them with friends and family in his man cave. When he retired he started making novelty birdhouses to hang around his land and also to give to the special people in his life.

Two years ago he met his girlfriend Cathy who was with him at the hospital almost every single day. They loved listening to country music, dancing to country music, going on rides together in the side by side and just having fun doing anything and everything together. Gil’s favorite place to be was home enjoying the deer and the view!

Gil is survived by his children Wendy Endres and Darrin (Amie) Vieth; eight grandchildren Briana, Payton, Skyler, Paige, Zack, Kendall, Caleb and Emory; one great grandchild Olivia; his significant other Cathy Tischendorf; three brothers Richard (Jeannie), Brian (Vicki) and Curt; five sisters Carolyn Berry, Laureen (Bill) Calloway, Joanne (Dave) Abbott, Lavonne (Tom) Livangood and Marcia (Bob) Lundt; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary, son Ryan, sister Darlene Maack, parents and grandparents.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 26th at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, with Pastor Randy Williamson officiating. A burial will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery following the service. A luncheon will follow at Jake's Northwoods.

Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home and 10 a.m. until time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.
