Harlan L Jerome

     Harlan L. Jerome, 86, of Sparta, passed away with family by his side on Monday, June 5, 2017 at Rolling Hills Rehabilitation Center, Sparta.  He was born on December 5, 1930 to Maynard and Dorthy (Baker) Jerome near Bangor.

     On July 29, 1950 he was united in marriage with Jane A. Miller.  Together they had 5 children.

     Harlan spent most of his years farming.  After turning the farm over to his son Larry, he operated a meat cutting business in Cataract for many years and then went back to his joy-farming.  Throughout his years he touched so many lives and treated everyone like an old friend.

     No one will ever forget that smile.  Harlan loved to dance along with his brothers and sisters and rarely missed an opportunity to do so.  He enjoyed hunting and made many memories for family and friends to treasure for years.

     Harlan is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jane; sons, Dennis (Betty) Jerome, Randy (Margaret) Jerome; daughter, Judy (Roger) Austin; and daughter-in-law, Barb; 10 grandchildren: Rich, Tom, Joe, John Jerome; Jennifer Jerome-Hughes; Miranda Jerome; Anne Downing; Sheila Rhodes, Heather McAlear and Sara Hericks; 27 great grandchildren; and a great great grandchild on the way; brothers: Raymond (Eleanor) Jerome, Roger (Ruthie) Jerome, Maynard (Karen) Jerome, Sid (Karen) Jerome, and David (Margaret) Jerome; sisters: Dorthy Christensen, Ruby Culpitt, Betty Graack; inlaws, Joy Jerome, Arlene Miller; Doc (Lois) Miller; Larry Adams; and family friend, Joyce Johnson; beloved pets, Smokey and Stacy; and numerous nephews, nieces, and friends.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Larry; and infant daughter, Virginia; brother, Marvin; sister Delores Adams; uncle, Manley Christenson; nephew, Brian Culpitt; brothers-in-law, Bill Miller, Augie Vian, Ernie Graack; brother and sisters-in-law, Wyatt (Zona) Shisler; and James (Hoppy) and Fay Miller; nephew, Kevin Jerome; nieces, Laura Antony and Bonnie Malzacher.

     A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 9, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sparta, with Rev. Mark Kvale officiating. Burial will follow in Burns Cemetery, rural Bangor.
