Harold M. Sather, 79, of Sparta, died Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Verde Valley Medical Center in Cottonwood, AZ. He was born on August 19, 1939 to the late Medford and Millie (Olson) Sather in Blair, WI.
Harold proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for four years and then joined the National Guards. He married Nancy Gabriel Edgell on October 10, 1998. Harold worked for Seguin Lumber for 20 years as a carpenter. He then worked at Fort McCoy for 14½ years and retired in 2002.
Harold enjoyed woodworking, flowers, yard work, reading, visiting, and playing cards. His greatest passion was spending time with his wife, Nancy. They enjoyed going on road trips in their 1979 Ford pickup. They also loved traveling and wintering in Arizona. Harold’s faith was very important to him. He felt that God had Blessed him many times.
Harold is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughter, Debra; son, Michael (Theresa); stepson, James Huber; sister-in-law, Darlene Gabriel; cousin, Elaine Pregent; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and several adopted grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lori Ann; sister, Sylvia Tranberg; brothers-in-law, Stanley Tranberg and Robert “Bob” Gabriel; mother-in-law, Ilah Gabriel; and his loving Yorkie companion, Misty.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, with Reverend Mark Gilbert officiating. Military honors provided by VFW Post 2112 will be held following the service at the funeral home. Private family burial will be held at a later time in Upper Pigeon Creek Cemetery, Northfield, WI.
Family and friends are invited to call from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
