JoAnne G. Jackson, 84, of Winona and formerly of Sparta, passed away Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Rochester, MN surrounded by her loved ones. She was born June 29, 1934 in Sparta, to the late Carlton and Zora (Hohn) Schaitel.
JoAnne grew up in the Sparta area and graduated from Sparta High School with the class of 1953. She married Arnold Jackson in Sparta, on September 12, 1953. He preceded her in death in January of 2006.
JoAnne was a stay at home mom until her children were grown, and then became a caregiver for the elderly. JoAnne and Arnold enjoyed going their cabin “Vacation Land” in Hatfield. She also enjoyed entertaining her children and other by playing the organ. JoAnne loved all the activities at Callista Courts Assisted Living Facility, especially playing bingo. She was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
JoAnne will be sadly missed by her four children: Carla (Jim) Thompson, of Winona, MN; Arnie Jr. (Glenda) Jackson, of Winona; Tom (Susan Spilger) Jackson, of Iowa City, IA; and Jeff (Dee) Jackson, of Rushford, MN; two foster daughters, Deb (Rick) Gaines, of Owatonna, MN; and Cindy (Jim) Carlson, of Lakeville, MN. She is further survived by her 7 grandchildren: Jesse, Andy, Glenn, Kate, Danielle, Kelsey, and Ryan; 16 great grandchildren and one on the way ; and a brother, Ron Schaitel, of Texas.
In addition to her husband, Arnold and parents, Carlton and Zora, she was preceded in death by an infant son, John; a sister, Norma (Ray) Peters; and a daughter-in-law, Cindy Jackson.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 25, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sparta, with Father Juan Pedro officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Sparta.
