John D. Guist

John D. Guist, 71, of Sparta, died Monday, June 4, 2018 at his home. He was born on December 15, 1946 in La Crosse, WI to Keith and Vivian (Cleary) Guist.

     John married Marianne Haug and they later divorced. He served in medical care in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 100 and VFW Post 2112 both of Sparta.

     John is survived by his children, Jerri (Randy) Johnson and Josh (Katie) Guist; his granddaughter, Danyana Lynn Johnson; his sister, Romaine (Robert) Nelson; nephew, Paul (Opal) Nelson; and great niece, Violet Nelson.

     He was preceded in death by his father, Keith Guist; his mother, Vivian Cleary Oftedahl; and his step father, Howard J. Oftedahl.

     A memorial service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at VFW Post 2112, 121 South Rusk Ave, Sparta, with Reverend Randy Williamson officiating. Immediately following the service, family and friends are invited to help carry on the legacy of lasting impressions by joining a celebration of life at the VFW until 2 p.m. 

     The Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, is assisting the family with arrangements.
