John F Shawley

John F. Shawley, 78, of Sparta, died Monday, February 27, 2017 at the Morrow Memorial Home, Sparta. He was born November 20, 1938 to Fred and Roberta (Vandenbush) Shawley in Hokah, MN. John attended Sparta High School. Following high school he enlisted in the US Navy. John married Lavonne Abbott on August 28, 1959. He worked at Briggs & Stratton in Milwaukee, for 36 years until his retirement in 1998. John was an avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting and fishing.

John is survived by his loving wife, Lavonne; two children, Jeff (Lori) Shawley, Greenfield, WI; and Lori (Mike) Schenk, Waterford, WI; two grandchildren, Michelle (Mike) Glock; and Laura Haugen; and two great grandchildren, Alex and Myah. He is further survived by his sisters, Barbara Erickson, LaCrescent, MN; Frances Day, Sparta; and Linda Jick, Plainview, MN; a brother in law, Erling Berg, Duluth, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Roberta; and siblings, Richard Shawley; Helen Berg; and Vernon Shawley; and Frances Day’s partner, David Crocker Jr.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 4, at the Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, with Rev. Robbie Nowicki officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by VFW Post 2112 will follow in Cataract Cemetery, Cataract.
