Joseph A. Kast, 92, of West Salem and formerly of Bangor, died Friday, July 6, 2018 at Lakeview Health Center Nursing Home, West Salem. He was born on March 10, 1926 in Jefferson Township, Monroe County, WI to John K. and Gertrude Ann (Leis) Kast. He grew up in the Melvina area. He worked on the family farm. He served in the US Army during WWII.
Joseph married Margaret Antony. She later passed away. He married Eudora Schaefer on November 6, 1954. They farmed in the Melvina, Wilton, and Bangor areas.
After retirement from farming, Joseph worked for the Bangor Schools as custodian and retired when he was 74. He became a resident at Lakeview Health Center in 2013.
Joseph enjoyed woodworking. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. The family would like thank the staff at Lakeview Health Center for their patient and nurturing care of Dad for the past 5 years.
Joseph is survived by his children, Gary Kast of La Crosse, Tonya “Sis” Marsh of Bangor, Roger (Dawn) Kast of Holmen, Paul (Sue) Kast of Mindoro, Karen (Mike Abbott) Kast of Sparta, Steve Kast of Tomah, Doris (Tony) Johnson of Mindoro; daughter-in-law, Dawn Kast of West Salem; 18 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Bertha Geier; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Margaret; his wife, Eudora on December 11, 2009; his son, Douglas on February 17, 2018; an infant son; and siblings, Vernon, Herman, Sylvester, Edward, Katherine Schmitz, Henry, Robert, infant sisters, Elnora and Marie; and son-in-law, Jack Marsh.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bangor, with Father Raja Kennedy officiating. Burial with full military honors, provided by American Legion Post 40, will be in Rockland Cemetery, Rockland.
Family and friends are invited to call from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, and from 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Tuesday at the church.
