Julius R Baumer

     Julius R. Baumer, 79, of Sparta, died Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Time For Ease, Sparta. He was born on December 27, 1937 in La Crosse, WI to Julius and Virginia (Bennington) Baumer. He grew up in La Crosse and graduated from West Salem High School. He served in the Us Army for 2 years.

     Julius moved to Davenport, IA and worked at the Wonder Bread Bakery. He then worked tool and die with his brother, Jack in Illinois. He also own and operated a bar for 3 yrs, The Corner Tap in Annawan IL. He bought a farm and moved to Sand Creek in 1976 and moved to Sparta in 1979. He worked at G. Heileman Brewery in La Crosse.

     Julius married Betsy Loging on February 23, 1957 in West Salem. They later divorced.

     Julius enjoyed fishing, playing cards, bowling, watching the Chicago Cubs, and Green Bay Packers.

     The family would like to thank the staff at Time For Ease and Mayo Hospice for their love, support, and wonderful care they provided.

     Julius is survived by his children, Diane (Allen) Huber and Russell (special friend, Kathy) Baumer both of Sparta; his grandchildren, Kevin (Erin) Huber, Daniel Huber, Christopher Baumer, and Julia (Ian) Martin; great grandchildren, Kolby, Mariah, Gabriel, Alex, Madison, Lexy, Hailey, Adam, and Brantley; a brother, Pat (Jane) Baumer of Eagle River, AK; brothers and sisters-in-laws William (Sadie) Loging of Pomaria, SC, Alice Baumer of Mindoro, WI, Carol Baumer of Davenport, IA, Mildred (Chet) Britt of California, and Elaine Purdy of California; special friend at Time for Ease, Jackie; special friend and former wife, Betsy Baumer of Sparta; and other relatives and friends.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Sharon; a great grandson, Andrew Martin; 3 brothers, Jack, James, and Thomas; sister-in-law, Pat Baumer; and other relatives.

     A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, with Chaplain Kathleen Charles officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by VFW Post 2112 will be in Cataract Cemetery.

     Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of services. 

     The Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, is assisting the family with arrangements.
