Karen J Brockman

Karen J. (Fahrenkrug) Brockman, 65, of Sparta, died Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Rolling Hills Rehabilitation Center, Sparta.  She was born at St. Mary’s Hospital in Sparta, on July 13, 1951 to Albert H. and Alice C. (Loether) Fahrenkrug.

Karen married John Brockman on July 3, 1971.  One son, Eric John Brockman, was born to this union on June 9, 1975.

Karen united with Community of Christ Church on June 23, 1971, baptized by Wallace Pohl, confirmed on June 30, by Victor Lakowske and Raymond Treat.  Karen and John celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in 1996 with a reception at Community of Christ Church in Sparta, and celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary at Rolling Hills Rehabilitation Center in 2015.

She was always a willing worker at the church sponsored garage sales. Karen and John liked playing cards with friends, Audrey Baux and Helen Helgesen. She was also a wonderful cook-you never went away hungry from her table.  She enjoyed country music and listening to her records and tapes.

Karen had a unique sense of humor, and was known for her kind heart for the down trodden in her midst.  She enjoyed doing word search puzzles and visiting with her special friends, Arbutus and Shirley.  She will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Karen is survived by her husband, John; her son, Eric; three siblings, Al, Duane, and Carol; three sisters-in-law, Darlene (Wallace) Pohl; Ardel Lakowske; both of Sparta; and Betty Brockman, of Mindoro; one nephew, Brian (Cindy) Pohl of Marshfield, and their child, Eria Pohl; nieces, Terri (Gary) Oswald; Katie (Jason) Opper, and their children, Taylor and Gavin Opper of Sparta; and many other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Alice; a brother, David Fahrenkrug; a sister, Alice; an infant sister, Sharon Beverly; and brothers in law, Otto Brockman; Victor Brockman; Sam Brockman; and Victor Lakowske.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 10, at the Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, with Elder James Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Big Creek Cemetery, Rural Sparta.
