Kathy A. Vepley

     Kathryn “Kathy” A. Vepley, 60, of Sparta, died Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Gundersen Health System, La Crosse after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on September 23, 1959 in Sparta to Henry and Vera (Yahnke) Olson. She grew up in Sparta and graduated from Sparta High School in 1978.

     Kathy married Peter Vepley III on April 4, 1981. They lived in Illinois before moving back to Sparta. Peter passed away on November 7, 2008.

     Kathy worked at Northern Engraving, Sparta Tool, and ran her own child daycare. Her daycare children meant so much to her. She enjoyed wine and watching the Minnesota Vikings. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.

     Kathy is survived by her children, Jodi Meltesen, Jennifer (Joe) Zidarin, and Christopher Vepley all of Sparta; five grandchildren, Cody Meltesen, Jordan Meltesen, Breanna Zidarin, Samantha Zidarin, and Joey Zidarin; her mother, Vera Olson, of Sparta; siblings, Elaine (Bruce) Kressen of Alexandria, VA, Judy Given of La Crosse, Richard (Sandy) Olson of La Crosse, Gene Olson, Stan (Starlynn) Olson, John Olson, Norm (Michelle) Olson, Arnie (Denise) Olson, David Olson, Frank Olson, Mavis Dickman, and Sue Hunt all of Sparta; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

     She was preceded in death by her father, Henry; husband, Peter; and brothers, James and George.

     A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at VFW Post 2112, Sparta. A Celebration of Kathy’s Life will continue after the service at the VFW.

     Family and friends are invited to call at VFW Post 2112 from 1 p.m. until time of services. 

     The Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, is assisting the family with arrangements.
