Michael J. Schaitel

     Michael “Stubby” J. Schaitel, 75, of Sparta, and formally of Janesville, died Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at the Morrow Memorial Home, Sparta. He was the first born son of Joseph and Rosella (Frederick) Schaitel born June 5 of 1941 in Janesville, WI

     Michael worked for a brief time in the Chevrolet plant in Janesville for the first half of the 1960’s. From 1962 to 1970 Michael Schaitel and Eleanor M. Johnson were wed with son, Jeffery Schaitel being born to them. From 1966 to 1970 Michael held assorted jobs that later led him to become employed by his brother, Leonard Schaitel at the Leon Supply Company doing well and pump service. In 1975 Michael was married to Jaleata Neitzel until 2004. During this time they had two sons; Jason and Mark Schaitel. In 1977 Michael bought out the pump service from the Leon Supply Company and renamed it Mid-Wisconsin Pump & Well Service.

     In June of 2003 Michael had a severe motorcycle accident that would change the last “glory years” of his life. Most of this time was spent in assisted living or nursing home environments. Michael has left behind an honorable legacy.

     He leaves behind 3 sons, Jeff (Jerri Jo) Schaitel; Jason (Randi French) Schaitel; and Mark Schaitel; 5 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren. He is further survived by 7 brothers and 3 sisters: Leonard (Shalimar) Schaitel; Janette (Marvin) Mullenberg; Joseph (Alice) Schaitel; Allan (Kathy) Schaitel; Dennis (Mary) Schaitel; Marian (Thomas) Naegle; Phillip (Cindy) Schaitel; Carol (Jeffrey) Schmitz; Clair Schaitel; and Marvin (Jessica) Schaitel; and many nieces and nephews.

     Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Rosella Schaitel; and brothers Carl and Eugene Schaitel.

     A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 16, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sparta, with Fr. Keith Kitzhaber officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

      Family and friends may visit from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, May 15, at the Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, with a 7 p.m. Rosary to conclude the evening. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, at the church from 10 a.m. until the hour of Mass. Online condolences may be offered to the Schaitel family at www.schanhoferfh.com
