Richard (Dick) Lee Morrell Sr. died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017 at the age of 78 years, 4 months & 15 days.Richard was born in Crandon, WI to Louis and Leona (Holmes) Morrell on October 1, 1938.

Richard grew up in Crandon and entered the Army at 17 years of age. His Military career began in April of 1956. He served active Army and Reserves, retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1998. Over the course of his military career Richard served in Korea, Alaska, and 3 tours in Germany. Richard mainly trained troops when they came in. The last twelve years he was a senior combat truck instructor. During his later service years he was stationed at Camp (Fort) McCoy. Richard was a life time member of the VFW.

Richard was united in marriage to Gale Izard in August of 1964. To this union two children were born, Richard (Rick) Lee Morrell II and Maureen. Richard and Gale were later divorced. Richard Married Joyce (Hackbart) Landgraff March 26, 1977. To this union Richard gained four step children, Connie, Cheryl, Chris, and Curt.

Dick enjoyed bowling in his earlier years, fishing, camping, hunting, playing cards, and his coffee clutch with the guys at Syverson’s gas station.

Richard is survived by his wife of almost forty years, Joyce Morrell, of Sparta, WI; son, Richard (Rick) Morrell and daughter, Maureen McDonald, both of Pocatello, Idaho; step children, Connie (Scott) Jerome, Sparta; Cheryl (Dave) Slezewski, of Sun Prairie, WI; Chris (Shelley) Landgraff  and Curt Landgraff, all of Onalaska, WI; brother, Chuck (Rose) Morrell, of Crandon, WI; sisters, Roberta Possing, of Hiles, WI; Phyllis (Jay) Cleveland and Margaret Morrell all of Crandon,WI; Rose Ann Hansen, of Bristol, WI; Vernice (Wayne) Montgomery, of Laona, WI; sisters in Law, Carol-Dee Morrell, of Colorado Springs, CO; Carole (Denver) Wright, of Iola, WI; and Colleen Hackbart, of Ripon, WI; brothers in law, Raymond (Luann)Hackbart, of Coloma, WI; and Richard (Judy) Hackbart, of Ripon, WI. He is further survived by his grandchildren: Christin Turner, Erin (John) O’Connor, Bobbie Gomez, Austin Morrell, Alex Morrell, Logan Fagnant, Joshua McDonald, Brian Leis, Eric Jandt, Danelle Jandt, Kelly Jo Clark, Samantha Clark, Rachel Clark, Alexis Landgraff, and Cole Landgraff, 16 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Louise J and Leona M. (Holmes) Morrell; brothers, Edward, Warren, James, and William; sisters, Clara and Violet Morrell; brothers in law, Peter Hansen and Elroy Hackbart; sisters in law, Faye Morrell and Josephine Morrell; parents in law, Elmer and Bernice Hackbart.

Richard’s family would like to thank the Morrow Home Staff and Community for the wonderful care he received while residing there and the Lanham-Schanhofer funeral home for assisting the family with arrangements.

A Celebration of Life for Richard will be held Sunday, March 19th at the Sparta American Legion from 1 to 4 P.M. Online condolences may be offered to the Morrell family at www.schanhferfh.com.
