Robert Betts Obituary

     Robert James Betts, 75, died Sunday, June 30, 2019, at his home following a courageous battle with lung cancer. During his time of death, he was surrounded by his daughters.

     He was born on June 7, 1944, in Sparta, WI, to Christina and Floyd.

Bob proudly served in the United States Army. After his time in the military; he worked as a

Telecommunications Contractor, until his retirement.

     Bob enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, four wheeling, snowmobiling, watching

racing, the Green Bay Packers, the Milwaukee Brewers, and drinking Blatz Beer. His true

passion was working on lawn mowers and Bob was proudly known by many as “Cataract’s

Lawnmower Man.”

     Bob is survived by his three daughters, Krista (Larry) Hove, Bridget (Joe) Powers, and Kelli

(Chad) Johnson; his former wife, Barbara Betts; his grandchildren, Christopher (Krista) Hove, Michael Hove, Majestah Hove, Patrick Hove, Jamie Powers, Logan Powers, Emma Johnson; and his three great-grandchildren, Dylan, Ascher, and Langston Hove; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

     Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Christina Betts; his father, Floyd Betts; and his siblings.

     A memorial service will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, July 6, 2019, at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Sparta, with military honors by the VFW Post 2112 of Sparta and the United States Army Funeral Honor Guard. A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service, Saturday, at the funeral home. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.schanhoferfh.com 

     Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home in Sparta is assisting the family with arrangements.

     The family would like to give a special thank you to the Black River Memorial Hospice team, the Gundersen Health System Oncology and Radiation Departments, and the Tomah VA Medical Center.
