Roger A. Strom, 85, of Sparta, died Friday, July 6, 2018 at Gundersen Health System, La Crosse. He was born on August 18, 1932 in Sparta to Alex and Cynthia (Risberg) Strom. He grew up in Sparta and graduated from Sparta High School in 1951.
Roger married Joan Webster on May 10, 1953 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sparta. He then served in the US Air Force and was stationed at Larson Air Force Base in Moses Lake, WA. After the service they moved back to Sparta.
Roger worked and eventually owned Strom Monument Works in Sparta until his retirement. He volunteered with Sparta Area Cancer Support, was Secretary of Woodlawn Cemetery, and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sparta. He enjoyed golf and the associated socialization. He was an avid Packers and Brewers fan. Roger was known and loved by his family and many friends for his compassion, his sense of humor, and his zest for life. He was an inspiration to all and will be missed forever.
Roger is survived by his wife, Joan of Sparta; his son, Ronald (Susan) Strom of Eau Claire, WI; grandchildren, Alex Strom and Amber Strom both of Eau Claire; great grandchildren, Lailah and Amiylah; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Elsworth ‘Al’, Lloyd, Percy, Marshall, LaVerne Fuenger, and Donald.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sparta, with Reverend Mark Kvale officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by VFW Post 2112 will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Sparta.
Family and friends are invited to call from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, and from 10 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday at the church.
