Theodore A. “Ted” Martin, 67, of La Crosse/Cashton, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2018 after a short battle with cancer. He was born in La Crosse on April 6, 1950 to Theodore
and Katherine (Gardner) Martin. He was raised on a small farm in Portland along with his siblings. He attended Portland Center grade school and Cashton High School, Class of 1968.
Ted worked different jobs throughout his life, including custodial work with the Cashton School District and laborer at Sparta Manufacturing. Planes, trains, and automobiles might sum up much of his life, as he had an interest in those areas. He had a passion for fishing and spent many hours creating fish stories with his best friends, Paul Gasper and Chuck Alexander. He enjoyed simple pleasures many take for granted and found interest in vintage cars and motorcycles. You might find him scouring a flea market or checking out a car show. He enjoyed and attended events such as the races at Elkhart Lake, Iola Car Show, and the Jefferson Car Show and Swap Meet.
Ted also had many other interests, and places of interest, and felt an enjoyment in sharing that sort of stuff with anyone who would care to learn something new. He also had a green thumb when it came to plants and flowers. He was willing to share his experiences and knowledge with people.
As an organ transplant recipient, he became an organ donor himself.
Ted is survived by his special partner, Cheryl Otto and her two sons, David and Matthew of La Crosse; his sisters, Donna Oium of Westby and Darleen (Norm) Ziegler of Sparta; his brothers, Jerald of La Crosse, Ronald of Sedro Woolley, WA, Delbert (Annette) of Holmen, George (Marlene) of Sparta, Timothy of Sparta, and Bruce (Linda) of Cashton; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, LaVerne; his sister, Mabel Ann Ramsland; twin infant sisters, Jane and Jean; and a brother-in-law, Paul Oium.
Ted is loved and will truly be missed by his family and friends.
