Wayne T. Swinghamer, 90, of Onalaska, passed away, Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse.
He was born December 1, 1928, in Cumberland, WI, the youngest of five boys, to Ambros and Magdalena Swinghamer. As a baby he was brought to La Crosse. Wayne was a graduate of Aquinas High School in La Crosse. He worked various jobs including: traveling to and from Alaska to bring back geological findings for Shell Oil; working as a ski instructor out west; he was a realtor for Gerrard-Hoeschler; and a certified soil tester. In 1988, Wayne was united in marriage to Patricia. Wayne’s fondest hobbies included playing golf, collecting golf balls, and cleaning golf balls and giving them to various high school golf teams; he was known as “the golf ball man.” He was also a sportsman; enjoying hunting and fishing. Wayne loved big band music and was an excellent swing dancer.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia of Onalaska formerly of Sparta; four children, Pamela (David) Woyicki, Michael (Roberta) Swinghamer, Scott Swinghame, and Jack (Jodeen) Swinghamer; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Debbie; and four brothers, Bob, Wally, Art, and Chub.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1333 13th Ave., So., La Crosse. Father John Swing will officiate. Private burial will follow. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m., until the time of Mass, Tuesday, at the church.
