Ardis L. Nelson

     Ardis L. Nelson, 76, of West Salem, passed away, Wednesday, July 29, 2020, at his home.   

     He was born June 29, 1944, in Caledonia, Minn., to Alfred and Palma (Hagen) Nelson. On October 27, 1966, Ardis married Sharon Kelly in La Crosse. Together they owned and operated Nelson’s Used Car Sales on Highway 16 in West Salem. He enjoyed fixing John Deere lawnmowers and fixing cars. Ardis loved racing at the La Crosse Fairground Speedway, watching NASCAR, and going to the races in Tomah and West Salem.

     Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Sharon; daughter, Sandra (Joel) Stickland; son, Layne Nelson; granddaughters, Shana-Ann Steffen (Christopher Story) and Tessa Stickland; brother, Burnell (Terri) Nelson; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

     Ardis was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Nelson; his mother, Palma (Nelson) Fritz; and two sisters, Linda (Michael) Betts and Avon (Maurice, Sr.) Dahl.

     A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
