Bernard J Becker Sr.

Bernard (Bernie) James Becker Sr., 84, of Sparta, WI, passed away at home on Sept 6, 2025. He was born on Sept. 2, 1941, in Bangor, WI, to Walter and Velma (Sommerfeld) Becker. 

Bernie was a lifetime Wisconsin resident and spent about 40 years working in the local sawmills. He was also an auto mechanic, and worked for a while at his father-in-law's business.  

Bernie was a dedicated Packers fan. He also enjoyed being outdoors working in the yard and gardening, as well as going camping, hunting and fishing.  

After retiring from the sawmills, Bernie enjoyed many years as a school crossing guard, where his constant smile and dedication to keeping kids safe were greatly valued.

In his later years, Bernie developed a passion for bicycles.  If the weather was good, he went for a bike ride, and often rode for several miles per day.  He also liked to fix up old bikes and give them to kids for a good price, or even for free.  This is just one of the many ways he donated his time to others. 

Bernie's very favorite pastime was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved telling stories about their time together and talking about what they were up to.  Bernie was also very fond of his cat, Tallulah, who was a loyal companion.

Bernie was a great dad and a loving grandpa.   Anyone who met him couldn't help but like him.  He was kind, funny, and always willing to lend a hand.  He will be very dearly missed.

Bernie is survived by his children, Owen (Sannea) Becker, Michael Becker, Brian Becker, Cherrie (Michael) Wright, Bernard Becker Jr., Kimberly (Don) Zahrte, Brett Becker; and his grandchildren, Sara, Heather, Daniel, Stefany, Beau, Serenity, Justus, Libertee, Glory, Braden, Bailey, Skylee, Theron, Kiana, Elliott, and Emmitt; sisters-in-law, Marylyn Becker, and Esther Becker; as well as many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Bernie was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, his former wives Barbara Becker and Theresa Becker, and his daughter-in-law Deborah Becker.

A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, October 11, 2025 at the Church of the Nazarene, located at 6287 Hwy 16 in Sparta. Burial will immediately follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
