Bernice J VanWormer

Bernice J. VanWormer, 78 of La Crosse and formerly of Sparta, died Tuesday, January 1, 2019, at Gundersen Health System, La Crosse. She was born August 15, 1940 to the late Veron VanWormer and Gertrude (Vian) Rhode in Sparta.

Bernice attended grew up in the Sparta area and attended Sparta High School. Following high school she became a Home Health Aide until her passing. Bernice loved the outdoors, especially fishing, camping and sitting on her swing. She also enjoyed shopping.

Bernice is survived by her six children, David Bussing; Richard Bussing; Ronald Persson; Kenneth Johnson; Daniel Bussing; and Jeanette McGinnis; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her two sisters, Caralyn (Rodney) Arnold; Edna Bussing; and Janie VanWormer; three brothers, Benjamin VanWormer, Henry (Jill) VanWormer, and Jeffrey Rhode; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Veron and Gertrude; two daughters, Shelly Moore and Valerie; a sister, Veronica (Tucker) VanWormer; a brother-in-law, John Bussing; and a sister-in-law, Delise VanWormer.

A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, January 7, at the Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, with Reverend Bill Bader officiating. Burial will be at a later time in Farmers Valley Cemetery, rural Sparta.
