Beverly J. Gamble

Beverly Jean Gamble, 99, of Sparta, passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at Riverside Transitional Care, in La Crosse.

Beverly was born in Sparta on August 4, 1926 to Lloyd and Mary (Wavra) Cole. After graduating from Sparta High School in 1945, she married her high school sweetheart and World War II boyfriend, Alvin, on January 17, 1946. She lived in their home on Wolcott Street until 2021. She was a stay-at-home Mom until all the children were in school. She started with a part-time job at Sparta Floral. This turned into full time when the kids were all in school.

Beverly volunteered for The Blood Bank, Election Polls, and was an active member of the United Methodist Church. Alvin and Beverly were avid campers, camping at various state parks around Wisconsin. They had a permanent site in the Wisconsin Dells area. They also had a side job of making and selling crafts. Beverly was also known to go to several area casinos to play Bingo, and worked the slot machines. She was known to be pretty lucky!

She moved to Mary Crest and Bridge Path (Morrow Home) in 2021 and remained a resident there until May of 2025, when she moved to Riverside Transitional Care, until her passing.

She is survived by three children, Robert (Nancy) Gamble, in Sturgeon Bay, WI, Eunice (Ric) Walcha, in Grants Pass, OR, and Alan (Lynette) Gamble in Onalaska, WI; grandchildren, Chad (Wendy) Gamble, Krista (Nate) Fort, John (fiancé, Angie) Gamble, and Amy Gamble; 5 great grandchildren; brother, Lloyd (Lois) Cole Jr. in Wautoma, WI; sister, Mary Lou Cole in Rockland, WI; and sister-in-law, Karin Gamble of Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin; parents, Lloyd and Mary Cole; in-laws, Harry and Mabel Gamble; brother, Robert Cole; sister, Barbara Kessinich; and brothers-in-law, Floyd (Alice Mae), Laverne (Shirley), Donald (Ann), and Eugene Gamble.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Sparta Morrow Home and Riverside Transitional Care, for the wonderful care they provided during her remaining years.

A Funeral Service will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home and Cremation, Sparta, with Pastor Lourdes Magalhaes officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Sparta. A luncheon will follow the burial at the funeral home.

A Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Saturday, at the funeral home.
