Carl “Andy" E. Anderson, 79, of Sparta, passed away, Sunday, February 9, 2020, at his home.
He was born July 29, 1940, in St. Paul, Minn., to Carl, Sr., and Elizabeth (Robinson) Anderson. Carl and his family moved to Bloomington in 1942, where he lived for most of his life. Carl was a graduate of Mankato State. In January of 1974, he moved to Sparta. On December 20, 1975, Carl married Kathleen “Kathy” Epperly at the Sparta United Methodist Church. Father Bernard Kelly from St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sparta and Reverend Wiese from the Methodist Church co-officiated their very first ecumenical wedding. Carl was one of the first five instructors for the Army Reserve Technical Training Center “AR Tech” at Fort McCoy. In May of 1985, he and Kathy moved to Germany where they were stationed for 10 years; they then moved back to Sparta. Carl served on the Monroe County Board for many years and was an active member and deacon at Faith Ev. Free Church in Sparta. He was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins fan.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy; one nephew, Edwin (Jan) Anderson; two nieces, Nancy Anderson and Jeanette Anderson; other relatives; and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Fred; and his nephew, Michael Anderson.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 15, 2020, at Faith Ev. Free Church, Sparta. Pastor Nate Palmer will officiate. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m., until 7:00 p.m., Friday, at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, and from 10:00 a.m., until the time of service, Saturday, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to VCY America Inc., Milwaukee or White Cross of Bethany Ev. Free Church, Onalaska.
Carl wanted everyone to know, they have two choices: Satan or the Lord, Jesus Christ. He chose the Lord, Jesus Christ.
