Miss Carol Edith Bangsberg, 79, of Crown Point, IN, died of natural causes at home Monday, October 28th, 2024. The family asks that you remember Carol in the circles you knew her and maybe share a coffee or read a book in her memory.
Carol was born in Gilman, WI on October 17, 1945 to Chester J. Bangsberg Jr. and Violet (Rued) Bangsberg. Carol grew up on the family farm near Cataract with her two sisters and three brothers. Carol attended the Brackett one room school until 8th grade and graduated from Sparta High School in 1963. She earned a bachelor’s degree in 1967 from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire and a master’s degree in 1971 from the University of Nebraska Lincoln. She spent a semester in Mexico studying at the International Spanish Language Institute. Carol began working as a Spanish teacher at Crown Point Junior High and later at the high school. Senorita Bangsberg spoke fondly of her former students from her 40 plus years as an educator.
She enjoyed spending her summers on the family farm outside of Cataract, WI, visiting county fairs, gardening, spending time with family, and making frequent stops at coffee shops. Carol kept her family connected with her famous lavish Christmas celebrations and “Farm Fest” summer gatherings.
Since retirement, Carol spent much of her time volunteering at the Crown Point Library. She cared very much about reading and helping to create a positive environment for everyone to experience. Carol was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma for women educators. She had a habit of devouring the news, stayed up on current events, and was a lifelong learner.
She was a good listener and a great conversationalist. Carol had an eye for fashion and enjoyed annual shopping trips with her sisters and niece. She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed laughing.
Carol is survived by her two sisters, Helen (Stephen) Schlosser Brooklyn Park, MN, Laurie (Mark) Epperly, Sherrard, IL, her brother Burton (Jane) West Salem, WI, her nieces, nephews, and their children. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers, Wesley Bangsberg and Marc Bangsberg.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Oak Grove Cemetery, Cataract, with Chaplain Priscilla Hemmersbach officiating.
