Carol J. Taylor

     Carol J. Taylor, 82, of Sparta, died Thursday, December 24, 2020 at Morrow Memorial Home, Sparta. She was born on November 7, 1938 in Potosi, WI to Alfred and Mary (Kelly) Slaght. She grew up on the family farm just outside Potosi. Her father passed away before Carol was born. She reconnected with his side of the family many years later through genealogy.

     Carol graduated from Cassville High School and then attended WI State College in Platteville where she received her Teaching Certificate. She later received her Bachelor’s Degree from UW-Platteville and her Master’s Degree from Viterbo University.

     Carol married Kenneth Taylor on June 10, 1961 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Potosi. They lived in many places in WI, teaching for Montello School District, Adams-Friendship School District, De George School, and Tri County School District. She retired for a while to raise her daughter. She then taught at Almond Bancroft School District and retired from Westfield School District.

     Carol and Ken moved to Sparta in 1998. They also lived in Rice Lake, and Cottonwood, AZ before returning to Sparta in 2018. Carol suffered a stroke shortly after and became a resident of the Morrow Memorial Home. She enjoyed knitting and loved her Precious Moments collection.

     Carol is survived by her husband, Kenneth of Sparta; daughter, Kristine (Doug) Bakus of Rockford, IL; and four grandchildren, Nathan, Thomas, Matthew, and Mary.

     She was preceded in death by her parents.

     Funeral services will be held at a later time in Potosi, WI.

     The Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home, Sparta, is assisting the family with arrangements.
